This immersive 6-day tour takes you from the bustling heart of Marrakech to the serene northern coast. Experience the dramatic shift in landscapes as you travel from the High Atlas Mountains and the golden Sahara Desert to the ancient imperial city of Fes, the iconic blue-washed streets of Chefchaouen, and finally to the historic port of Tangier. This journey perfectly blends natural wonders, rich history, and cultural charm, offering a comprehensive glimpse of Morocco’s diversity before concluding at the gateway to the Mediterranean.
Your tour begins with a pickup from your accommodation in Marrakech. We ascend the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass, with stops for panoramic photos of Berber villages. Your first major stop is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Ben Haddou, a breathtaking clay fortress famous for its film appearances. After exploring, we continue through Ouarzazate and along the scenic “Road of a Thousand Kasbahs” before arriving in the Dades Valley. Your hotel or riad here offers stunning views of the valley’s unique rock formations, known locally as “Monkey Fingers.”
Accommodation: Hotel/Riad in Dades Valley.
After breakfast, we drive to the impressive Todra Gorge, where you can take a short, refreshing walk between its towering 300-meter-high cliffs. The journey then leads deeper into the desert region, passing through the fossil town of Erfoud. By late afternoon, you’ll arrive at the golden dunes of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi). Here, you’ll swap your vehicle for a gentle camel ride, trekking into the serene dunes to witness a spectacular sunset. You’ll spend the night at a traditional desert camp, enjoying a hearty Moroccan dinner under a blanket of stars.
Accommodation: Private tent at a desert camp (Dinner included).
Wake early to experience a magical sunrise over the Sahara. After breakfast at the camp, you’ll ride your camel back to the village. The day’s long but beautiful drive takes you north towards Fes. You’ll travel through the vast Ziz Valley oasis, stop for lunch in the mountain town of Midelt, and pass through the Cedar Forests of Azrou—home to troops of Barbary macaques. You’ll arrive in the ancient city of Fes in the evening and check into your riad in the historic medina.
Accommodation: Riad in Fes.
After breakfast, a knowledgeable local guide will lead you through the UNESCO-listed Fes el-Bali, the world’s largest living medieval city. Discover its labyrinthine alleys, visit the historic Al-Qarawiyyin University, observe the vibrant Chouara Tannery, and explore the bustling souks filled with artisans. This full-day immersion offers a deep dive into the city’s rich history and enduring crafts.
Accommodation: Riad in Fes.
Bid farewell to Fes and journey north into the green, rolling hills of the Rif Mountains. Your destination is the famous Chefchaouen, the “Blue Pearl” of Morocco. Upon arrival, you’ll have the afternoon and evening free to wander its mesmerizing blue-painted alleyways, shop for local crafts, and soak in the tranquil, photogenic atmosphere from a café on the main square.
Accommodation: Hotel/Riad in Chefchaouen.
Enjoy a leisurely morning in Chefchaouen for final explorations. Afterwards, we drive towards the coastal city of Tangier. Upon arrival, you can visit the historic Kasbah and see the famous Cap Spartel, where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Mediterranean Sea. Your tour concludes with a drop-off at your chosen location: your Tangier hotel, the Ibn Battouta Airport, or the Tangier Med port for your onward journey.
